  1. “in trouble”: A feeling first. Fear makes people follow instructions instead of checking them.

  2. “gift cards”: A strange way to pay. Gift cards are for gifts. Nobody legitimate asks to be paid with one.

  3. “today”: A deadline. It is there to get a decision out of you before you get advice.

  4. “Please don’t tell Mom”: Secrecy. The story falls apart once a second person hears it.

One habit works on every scam

You do not have to recognize the scam or win the argument. You only have to leave the conversation the scammer controls.

  1. Pause

    End the call or close the message. If it is real, it will still be real in ten minutes.

  2. Check

    Reach them through a number you found yourself: the back of your card, a printed statement, a website you typed by hand.

  3. Decide

    Make the call once you have checked, not before. Anyone real will still be there.

    VoiceOver now names the "Phone Blocking" switch after the text on its row, so you can hear which setting you have reached before using it.

    VoiceOver reads the eye button in the middle of the tab bar as "AI Detective" instead of "Show", the same way the other four tab buttons are named after their screens.
